Pink is one of music's most recognizable artists. Over her career, she's spawned
several Top Ten hits including "Get The Party Started," "God Is A DJ" which was
featured in 2004's movie Mean Girls, and the smash hit "U + Ur Hand." The latter
is taken from her 2006 release I'm Not Dead. On December 4th, she will rerelease
the record with added material and a bonus DVD.
Pink released her fourth studio recording I'm Not Dead on April 4th, 2006. The effort
was released exactly six years to the day of her debut album Can't Take Me Home.
The album's lead single "Stupid Girls" mocked celebrity lifestyles and was somewhat
expected of Pink. Though the song poked fun at extra thin girls and blondes, the
message of the song was indeed one of a true role model. The song suggests girls
not pay attention to what Hollywood has become but be themselves and be successful
while being smart about it. The single reached No. 13 on Billboard's Hot 100
(Hot 100 consists of airplay and digital sales).
She then released "Who Knew" in the U.S in mid 2006 but it failed to pick up. She
then released "U + Ur Hand." It quickly shot up the charts and though it never
reached No. 1, it was one of Pink's most played songs. The single was produced by
pop formula mogul Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes).
This album has been most successful in Australia where she's released seven of the songs
as singles with "Long Way To Happy" rumored to be the eighth around Christmas. The
controversial "Dear Mr. President" became her 5th Top Five hit in Australia from this record.
"Dear Mr. President" is not a song bashing President George Bush, but a song about facts and
questions. Taken from the Live at Wembley DVD released earlier this year, the video for the
song is currently being rotated on VH1. The song however has no official plans to be released
because some critics would see it as a publicity stunt and Pink has stated in several
interviews about the song she doesn't want that to happen. Several stations have said she
isn't allowed to discuss the song, but on April 10th Pink performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel.
